Google Business Profile verification

Can't verify your Google Business Profile?

Google picks which verification methods you get, based on your business type, public info, region, and hours, and you can't change them. When verification keeps failing, the cause is usually something on the profile that does not match the real business.

The usual causes

  • The wrong business type. A business without permanent signage that goes to customers should be a service-area business with the address hidden, not a storefront.
  • A recent move or edit. Changing the name, address, or category can send the profile back to verification and can cancel a code already on its way.
  • A name that does not match. Extra keywords or a city in the name, or a name that is different from your signage and documents.
  • An address Google can't confirm: a virtual office, a mailbox store, or a coworking desk you do not staff.
  • A duplicate profile for the same business.
  • Not eligible at all. Online-only businesses with no in-person service can't get a Business Profile.

What to do first

  • Fix the profile before you try again: the real business name, the right business type, and an address and phone that match your documents.
  • Use the method Google shows you. If video is offered, Google recommends it.
  • After you submit, wait. Google says reviews take up to 5 business days and sometimes longer.
  • If Get verified appears again, Google could not fully verify the profile. Re-verify, and try another method if one is offered.
  • Contact Google support after you have tried the methods you have. Google says support can help more once you have.

If Google asks for ID

Some profiles get a government ID check. Upload your ID to Google only, and make sure the name matches the owner or manager on your business documents. Never send your ID to a third party who offers to verify for you.
